the talented mr. ripley is fantastic, and fantastically depressing. and creepy in that, even after he's proven himself to be a cold-blooded manipulative killer, you still want him to redeem himself by loving the person who loves him. even if you know it's a tragedy and it can't end like that. peter is heart-meltingly sweet and yet...this is basically a movie about how bad things happen to good people with no final justice. and now i have to sleep, even though i'm not a little creeped out and fairly depressed. but still a really well-done movie.
