here's how day 1 of vbs was supposed to go: i would sit in my nice little weaving tent and teach kids to put loops on potholder looms, praying they would lose interest before it came time to actually finish them because it is a godawfully irritating craft. but nonetheless kids would come and go and i would be only marginally responsible for them.

here's how day 1 of vbs actually went: 40 kids showed up late, one of the crew leaders had to leave, so i took over a crew that was running late and didn't know where to go. where we were supposed to go ended up being to games, where each kid fished with a net for a live goldfish and put it in a gallon ziploc bag to take home later. picture many, many small children running around with a precarious grip on a bulging bag of water containing a LIVE FISH. i spent all day worrying that the fish were going to die, that someone's bag was going to pop, that we would have crying children and dying, flopping fish...indeed, a few fish did bite the dust, but fortunately not in my crew. that is the WORST vbs activity ever come up with. EVER. 100 kids are wildlife enough to deal with without throwing fish into the mix. i have never been so nervewracked in my life.

other than that, things are things. reallllllllly wanting it to be september.

Live fish at Bible School? Live fish in the hands of little kids...oh dear...that's an idea that SOUNDS good...until you think about what it'll actually be like. That really sounds like an experience.
