leap of faith

for the first time in my life, i actually took a set of highlighters to my bible. it's not that i am overly hung up on respecting symbols (i don't think it's the end of the world if an american flag hits the ground, for example), i just have trouble marking in books, period. they're so much nicer when they're pristine. but i figure if i'm actually going to get anything out of bible study, the book is going to have to be well-loved (i.e. rifled, dented and marked up). for the moment the highlighting is only affecting a few chapters in matthew, but if all goes well with my bible-in-a-year project (there might need to be some retroactive highlighting to take care of the last two weeks) the condition should spread throughout the entire text...
