my eyes are fully open

we went to see the theatre company's "thoroughly modern millie" today. it doesn't set any kind of gold standard for their performances but it was entertaining. i wasn't a huge fan of the songs in general, but there's this wonderful nod to g&s's ruddigore in a song called "the speed test" that takes its music and some of its lyrics from the "matter patter" (i.e. "my eyes are fully open to my awful situation..." and "this particularly rapid unintelligible patter isn't generally heard and if it is it doesn't matter!" etc.) it was a heady moment of nerdiness to recognize it :P
