a math problem
Nov. 29th, 2004 08:35 pmi dunno why i was thinking about it, but i realized that it would be impossible to read every book in the world. isn't that sad? all those ideas you're missing out on...there could be some really incredibly interesting stuff that you will never hear about. even if you read your entire life there is no way you could get through it all. say you live to be 100 years old and you can read well enough to read children's books by the time you're 5. so that's 95 years spent reading. if you only slept 8 hours a day and managed to continue reading while doing everything else, that would be 16 hours a day times 365 days in a year times 95 years (assuming leap years are negligible) which is 554800 hours spent reading in your life. if the average book length is 300 pages and you can read about one page a minute, then you spend 5 hours on each book, so you can read 110960 books in your life. there have to be millions of books since the world population is like 7 billion and a good chunk of them have written something in their life. so you wouldn't even be able to read an appreciable fraction of all the books in the world. now wasn't that all completely pointless?
