*insert introspective new year's post here* i'm not mocking, i love reading other people's, i'm just not motivated to write one. i'm too tied to the academic calendar for this particular division to feel like it means anything. i'm sure there will be some retrospecting at the end of france, but for now, it's just another day in that experience. so, some reflections on the present, i guess.
+ going home tomorrow (for the current value of home). seeing brenda and christelle, and potentially having a day or two with just us girls in the house, which will be relaxing.
- spending every moment from getting home tomorrow evening until 8 a.m. friday morning studying history, and then the four hours after that regurgitating what i've studied in a hopefully successful fashion.
+ it's been nice spending time with my family. paris has been unexpectedly the most relaxing part of the trip.
- family going home (for their current value of home) tomorrow. i can't decide if it's better or worse that we're all leaving from paris, me to poitiers, them to london - maybe that way it will feel less real; on the other hand, i'll be by myself on a train for the next two hours. oh well. parting always sucks on some level, and it always gets better again.
+ my new grey leather ankle boots with little buttons up the side. they are french and classy.
- rewatched the finale of house season 4 this morning, and it's still just as depressing as it was the first time around. meh. i should know better than to watch depressing things when already slightly fragile.
+ i now know the dates of reign of the kings of france from the beginning of the 16th century to the revolution, having written them on the napkin of every restaurant i've been in since we got to paris. it works...
+ the waiter at the restaurant at lunch brought me dessert on the house, and it was good. i think he appreciated that i spoke french. :P
+ i generally appreciate my family's sense of humor (not surprising, since i'm sure my parents had a fair amount to do with shaping mine).
+ walking past the hotel we stayed in here in paris on my high school trip, and remembering that trip quite fondly.
+ this hotel has hot water (in contrast with the hotel we stayed in in grenoble, which had frigid showers), and i can take lengthy showers without worrying about my host family's electricity bill. screw the environment, i'm on vacation. :P
on that note, i'm off to take a lengthy shower...

Date: Jan. 1st, 2009 11:11 pm (UTC)Anyway, well done on the napkin-writing - I'm sure there were one or two confused waiters along the way, though!
also, huzzah for long showers. good for what ails you.

Date: Jan. 2nd, 2009 02:01 am (UTC)perhaps we'll overlap online one of these days...I just got skype (yay!) and successfully managed the video function, albeit with a funny pilot headset thing to keep the sound from getting fuzzy.
happy travels tomorrow! and no glumming. or, at least, minor glummage. potential listenage to "gotta have you" or "baba yetu" on repeat.
